The Max-Weber-Kolleg meets for its annual away day

This year, the MWK fellows meet for their annual away day at Neudietendorf, between Erfurt and Gotha, Germany.

After a short introduction by the director of the MWK, Hartmut Rosa, Uta Tellermann gave a paper on 'economy as culture' to discuss Max Weber and how his ideas impact on today's discourse, particularly in cultural economics. The paper was followed by an intensive discussion on how to relate these concepts.

The late afternoon was spend on the reading and discussing the draft proposal of a major grant application for a SFB (Sonderforschungsbereich) in the area of 'property' ('Eigentum').

Further topics to be dealt with are a number of internal structures and research projects (Fuchs/Renzi on ICAS:MP „Metamorphoses of the Political“, Kleeberg/Mulsow an 'Truth',  Haakonssen/Gango on 'Natural Law'.

Max Weber Center becomes member of UBIAS

During the conference ‘UBIAS into Impact: Networking our academics meet global challenges", which was held in late June at the University of Birmingham, the Max Weber Center for Advanced Cultural and Social Studies of the University of Erfurt had been admitted as member of UBIAS by the Director's Conference. The UBIAS network (University based Institute for Advanced Study) was founded in 2010 and represents more than 32 Institutes for Advanced Study in the world. All Institutes for Advanced Study gathered in this network are connected to a university and contribute to the academic culture and interdisciplinary networking of their respective university. They do this by Fellowship programs at different levels of the academic career, so they contribute to interdisciplinary, intergenerational and international networking of the respective universities. The inclusion of the Max Weber Center by UBIAS is an international recognition of the quality of Erfurt’s Fellowship programs and opens up numerous contacts and opportunities for cooperation with similar institutions around the world.

UBIAS organizes annual international conferences that serve and help implement quality standards in the international context of the cross-linking of the respective institutions.
